Clare Hodkinson of Wrexham opticians A1 Eyewear recently teamed up with SightFirst; a worldwide project carried out by the Lions Clubs International Foundation to fund high-quality, sustainable eye care services.

SightFirst concerns itself with all major causes of blindness and vision impairment: cataract, river blindness, trachoma, uncorrected refractive error and, especially in developed nations, diabetic eye disease and glaucoma. Since it’s founding almost a century ago, the Lions Clubs International Foundation has raised more than $415 million to improve sight and combat blindness.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.3 million members in approximately 45,000 clubs in more than 200 countries around the world. The Club’s mission is to be the global leader in community and humanitarian service. To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.

Wrexham’s very own Lions have been just as active in raising funds for the cause. The Club has collected in excess of 1500 pairs of glasses from opticians participating in the scheme. Helen Keller would be very impressed!

Everyone at A1 Eyewear is incredibly proud to be sustaining such a positive cause and hope to continue to support SightFirst into the future.
