Eye tests for children

Eye problems in children can develop at any age and even if there are no clear symptoms, there could still be an underlying condition.

As many as 1 in 5 children have an undetected eye problem, and with a majority of a child’s learning occurring visually, this can have a major effect on their education, and long term eye health, if untreated.

At A1 Eyewear we have the facilities to provide eye tests for children of all ages within a caring and friendly environment.

Signs of eyesight problems

Children do not often complain about their sight but you may notice signs in their behaviour that could be the result of eye problems.  Actions such as rubbing their eyes or blinking a lot, sitting too close to the television or holding items very close to their face could all be possible symptoms of sight conditions.  If you notice any of these in your child then book in for an eye test as soon as possible.

About the eye test

If you suspect that your child is suffering with an eye condition, or have a history of sight issues in your family, then you might want to consider booking an eye test.   We also recommend that every child should have an eye test before starting school to detect any possible sight problems that could have an impact on their learning. The examination does not hurt, and does not require the child to be able to read.  Also, all NHS sight tests for children under the age of 16 are free.  In some cases, it might be required to use drops in your child’s eyes to determine whether the backs of their eyes are healthy, and whether they need glasses or not.  The drops will dilate the pupils and relax the focusing mechanism and this may result in a temporary aversion to bright light and blurred vision.  These effects will usually wear off within six to ten hours and you will be told in advance if your child will require the eye drops or not.

The next step

If your child does require glasses, we want to make sure they have the ability to wear them confidently, which is why we offer a wide range of children’s glasses which are comfortable, stylish and secure.  We also offer a range of glasses that are free for children under the age of 18 that are in full time education.

To book an eye test or just require some more information on the subject then why not pay us a visit at our shop in Wrexham?

We look forward to seeing you!
